About Dr Kate

I’m a highly qualified and experienced clinical hypnotist, hypnotherapy trainer, author and international presenter.

Approachable, friendly and open-minded (or so I have been told), I work with people from all backgrounds to enable them to work towards positive outcomes, whether as hypnotherapy students, clinical hypnosis clients, professional organisations, or within corporate and communication settings.

As a result, I have a broad experience in using and teaching effective communication, hypnosis and hypnotherapy, in therapy, medical and professional environments.

Hypnosis & Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis is incredibly versatile and I find it fascinating how you can use it in so many applications. Its limits may truly be simply the furthest extent of our creativity and imagination, with diverse uses, including medical, therapy, sport, wellbeing, education, entertainment, corporate and professional applications, to name just a few.

My interest in all things hypnosis, started with the use of language in professional and social environments.

Whilst a key component of hypnosis is the use of language, the impact of our language is far-reaching, into our everyday lives.

Communication

Effective communication can significantly enhance our lives and the lives of others, yet poor communication can have the opposite effect. Whether it is an individual, a team, or an entire organisation, understanding how to communicate effectively benefits everyone.

My interest in effective use of language lead to in-depth studies, in communication, then the wide and varied uses of hypnosis, including hypnotherapy.

I found it so interesting that it became the focus for my formal education at Masters and Doctoral level. My doctorate (EdD) enabled me to gain a vast knowledge of how hypnosis and hypnotherapy is taught, giving me many thousands of learning hours and participating in some amazing training in the UK and internationally. My doctorate supported work of earlier degrees which looked at suggestibility (MSc. Psychology) and how people retain learning (MSc. OEHSM).

Teaching & Learning

Having always had teaching in my background throughout my career, I have a strong interest in how adults best learn and the most effective methods and tools in helping people to gain knowledge and skills.

An experienced teacher and trainer, I have taught hypnotherapy in Higher Education (university), Further Education (college) and with my own companies (HypnoTC: The Hypnotherapy Training Company and Hypnosis-Courses).

I am the lead supervisor and marker for the UK’s only Clinical Hypnotherapy Masters’ degree, and teach and advise on hypnotherapy and hypnosis-related research methods to a wide range of researchers and therapists.

Therapy

My hypnosis and hypnotherapy skills are fully employed in my therapy work, seeing UK-based and international clients online and in-person.

In addition, since 2011, I have been involved in the provision of hypnotherapy on the wards of a London teaching hospital.

I also work with staff, helping them develop their own self-care and boost resilience, and I am now teaching staff how to use these skills for the benefit of the patients.

Advisory Roles

Keen to help to develop the hypnotherapy profession, I advise organisations and institutions, such as the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC), and the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT) on matters relating to hypnotherapy theory, practice and professionalism.

I am the Chair of the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis (BSCH) and on the Profession Specific Board for Hypnotherapy, advising the CNHC on hypnotherapy within the profession.

I am involved in the revisions and ongoing development of the Hypnotherapy Core Curriculum.

I am also involved in providing advice to organisations such as the Professional Standards Authority (PSA) and the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH).

Presenting

I really enjoy sharing my knowledge and understanding of hypnosis and hypnotherapy.

I give many talks to organisations and groups, both social and professional.

I also speak at a number of conferences each year, nationally and internationally, on relevant hypnotherapy and communication topics.

Publications

As well as publishing numerous conference papers and training manuals, my love of writing extends to a range of fiction and non-fiction books.

It was a brilliant experience to write Sam The Sleepy Sheep, with Rory Z Fulcher. An experienced author, he gave me a solid understanding of what was required in the book-writing process. As a result, I have now authored several books with more in the pipeline.

My first solo publication, entitled How To Communicate More Effectively, was published in 2018; my second, Powerful Hypnosis Presentations: The HypnoDemo® Approach, in 2020; and my third, Persuasive Therapy: 101 Ways to Influence Your Therapy Clients, in 2021. Two more exciting books are currently in the writing and editing stages.

I was also honoured to be invited to contribute a chapter to a wellbeing textbook, entitled Understanding Wellbeing: An Introduction for Students and Practitioners of Health and Social Care.
